Armie Hammer is officially the 'Lone Ranger' alongside Johnny Depp
Armie Hammer has played against himself on screen in "The Facebook Movie." He stars as Leonardo DiCaprio's boyfriend in Clint Eastwood's biopic "J. Edgar" this December. And now, Hammer will have to try not to get blown off the screen acting opposite Johnny Depp in "The Lone Ranger."
Long rumored, it was confirmed this week that Hammer beat out Ryan Gosling for the role of the masked western hero. Hammer's Ranger will have competition, however, as Depp's Tonto won't be the traditional sidekick. Depp has made it clear he doesn't want the Ranger telling the Indian Tonto what to do and that the relationship will be reinvented for this new incarnation.
Gore Verbinski will reunite with Depp for the fifth time on "Ranger." The duo previously worked on the first three "Pirates" films and the acclaimed animated adventure "Rango" earlier this year.
Depending on the production schedule, it's possible "The Lone Ranger" could hit cinemas as soon as next summer.
