Johnny Depp in talks for lead role in David Koepp's 'Mortdecai'
With the "The Lone Ranger" flopping in U.S. theaters, Johnny Depp is quickly lining up his next quirky character.
The star is in talks for top billing in "Mortdecai," Lionsgate's an adaptation of a series of 1970s novels by Kyril Bonfiglioli. Depp would play the lead role of Charles Mortdecai, a suave art dealer with frequent psychotic breaks.
David Koepp ("Premum Rush") plans to direct from a scipt by Eric Aronson ("On the Line").
The director and Depp previously collaborated on the 2004 Stephen King adaptation "Secret Window," and were planning to work together on an update of "The Thin Man," which has yet to move forward.
Deep is currently shooting Wally Pfister’s directorial debut "Transcendence," and recently exited the Whitey Bulger biopic "Black Mass." He'll also star in the musical "Into the Woods," and is planning a fifth entry in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" series.
