McConaughey and Mendes head 'Southbound'

Romantic comedy stars Matthew McConaughey and Eva Mendes are in discussions to join the cast of the indie drama "Southbound."

Variety reports the picture centers on a patrol officer (McConaughey) on the U.S./Mexico border who accepts a bribe from a stunning Mexican woman (Mendes).  His mistake ends up in the crosshairs of a war between Mexican crime families and U.S. immigration putting his family in danger.  Jonathan Jakubowicz ("Secuestro Express") will direct.

McConaughey was recently seen in "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past."  Mendes appears next in "Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans" which debuts at this year's Venice Film Festival.
