Steven Spielberg may be developing 'West Side Story' remake at Fox
Will Steven Spielberg soon be putting on his dancing shoes for a "West Side Story" remake?
The prolific Oscar winner has reportedly expressed interest in developing the project at 20th Century Fox, although it's unknown if he's planning to direct, according to Deadline.
Likewise, the studio has yet to select a writer for the film.
Inspired by "Romeo and Juliet," the award-winning Broadway musical was adapted for the big screen in 1961 by Robert Wise ("Sound of Music") and stage director Jerome Robbins. It starred Natalie Wood, Richard Beymer, Russ Tamblyn, Rita Moreno and George Chakiris, and won 10 Oscars including Best Picture.
Meanwhile, Spielberg is still reportedly interested in making the sci-fi adaptation "Robopocalypse" for Fox and DreamWorks. He was set to make it his next project a few years ago, but stepped away to direct "Lincoln."
