'This Is the End' co-director Evan Goldberg is keen on a sequel
Was "This Is the End" only the beginning? It depends on who you ask.
The comical apocalypse tale with Seth Rogen, James Franco, Danny McBride, Craig Robinson, Jonah Hill, and other stars appear as themselves is on its way to becoming one of the summer's biggest sleeper hits.
Evan Goldberg, who co-wrote and co-directed the film with Rogen, may be ready for more.
He recently spoke to Screen Daily, who asked him about the prospects for a sequel.
"If you ask me, I’d say there’s a good chance of sequel,” he replied. "If you ask Seth, he’d say no. So, we’ll see."
After just two weeks, "End" has so far grossed $57.8 million in the U.S., on a reported $31 million budget, so a sequel doesn't seem outside the realm of possibility.
“We actually talked about doing a sequel where it starts at the premiere of 'This is the End,'" Goldberg continued. "Seth’s a cokehead in this version, Michael Cera is a calm dude with a boyfriend, Rihanna and The Backstreet Boys are back."
"We have a lot of ideas: a heaven and hell, for example, and a garden of Eden version where Danny is Adam."
