Epic drops Death Grips, surprising no one

Rap group Death Grips has been dropped from Epic Records, according to Pitchfork. And go figure. The band was reportedly unhappy that their album "NO LOVE DEEP WEB" was pushed to 2013, so they decided to leak their own album on Oct. 1.

"The label will be hearing the album for the first time with you," they wrote at the time, on their now-deleted Twitter account. Let's just say their chosen artwork wasn't the most appropriate either.

"Epic Records is a music first company that breaks new artists. That is our mission and our mandate," said Epic in a statement. "Unfortunately, when marketing and publicity stunts trump the actual music, we must remind ourselves of our core values. To that end, effective immediately, we are working to dissolve our relationship with Death Grips. We wish them well," Epic said in a statement.

This, after a half-year of scheduled-then-canceled tour dates and some general public hijinks, perhaps because the young act wasn't ready for the major label system, for the attention, or both.
