John Singleton to direct Tupac biopic
Tupac will live again, with John Singleton back on board to direct a long-delayed biopoc of the late rapper.
Two years after originally exiting the project, Oscar nominee Singleton ("Boyz in the Hood") will write, direct and produce the film, which will follow Shakur's rise to hip hop prominence which was cut tragically short in an as-yet-unsolved 1996 murder scene in Las Vegas.
Morgan Creek and Emmett/Furla/Oasis are co-financing the untitled film, according to Variety.
So far, there's been no word on who the filmmakers are planning to cast in the lead role. Anthony Mackie played Shakur in the 2009's "Notorious," which focused on Shakur's rival Biggie Smalls (played by Jamal Woolard).
Singleton directed Shakur in the 1993 drama "Poetic Justice," which co-starred Janet Jackson. He most recently directed the 2011 Taylor Lautner action film "Abduction."
