'Daily Show' sets Trevor Noah hosting premiere, Disney pulls plug on 'Tron 3,' and more
Disney nixes plans to make ‘Tron 3’
Your long, patient wait for another Daft Punk ‘Tron’ score has been for naught.
Disney won’t be moving forward with a third installment of the digital world sci-fi franchise that has thus far given us 1982’s “Tron.” and 2010’s “Tron: Legacy.”
The threequel was supposed to bring back “Legacy” stars Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde and director Joseph Kosinski.
Sources who revealed the news to The Hollywood Reporter pointed out that the project was never officially greenlit. But things had looked promising for a “Tron 3” for a while.
“Torn: Legacy” wasn’t much beloved among critics (it has a 51 percent on Rotten Tomatoes), but it did gross $400 million worldwide (and cost $170 million to make).
So no “Tron 3.” For your consolation prize though, you can have this fan-made “Tron: Destiny” trailer. — Emily Rome
