'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire' looking at monster $150 million debut?
Just how big will the upcoming "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" -- starring Jennifer Lawrence -- be at the box office?
Early tracking reports are indicating that audiences will soon be asking "Bella who?," as "Catching Fire" is poised to beat the all-time November opening record, currently held by "The Twilight Saga: New Moon."
"Fire" is tracking to score anywhere between $140 million and $150 million when it opens November 22. The second in the lucrative "Twilight" franchise scored $142.8 million in its debut frame in 2009.
If "Fire" does indeed hunt down that much, it will placed among the biggest debuts of all-time, alongside "Marvel's The Avengers," "The Dark Knight," the final three "Twilight" films, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Shadows Part II," and more.
However, "Iron Man 3" will likely still hold 2013's biggest opening record with $174.1 million.
Likewise, even with a $150+ million opening, "Fire" won't have an easy time topping its 2012 predecessor, which opened to a huge $152 million on its way to a massive domestic haul of $408 million. The odds are certainly in its favor though, as the film seems to be one of the most anticipated of the year.
"The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" also stars Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jeffrey Wright and Jena Malone.
