Arnold Schwarzenegger in talks to star in ‘Toxic Avenger’ remake
Arnold Schwarzenegger in talks to star in "Toxic Avenger," a big-budget reboot of the long-running Troma series.
Loosely based on the original franchise, "Toxic" will tell the tale of a nerdy teen who is transformed into a monstrous superhero after being exposed to toxic chemicals. Schwarzenegger would play "the Exterminator," a former black ops agent, who trains Toxie to use his powers for good.
The remake will be written and directed by "Hot Tub Time Machine" mastermind Steve Pink, and produced by Akiva Goldsman, Richard Saperstein, Charlie Corwin, Stephen Kessler and Michael Benaroya. Troma's Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz will executive produce, according to Deadline.
The original "Toxic Avenger" was directed by Troma founder Lloyd Kaufman in 1984 and spawned several sequels, merchandise and even an unexpected children's animated series.
Schwarzenegger was recently seen in "The Expendables 2" and "The Last Stand," and will next star opposite Sylvester Stallone in "Escape Plan, and in the thriller "Ten," from "End of Watch" director David Ayer.
