'Avengers' star Scarlett Johansson to sit out 'Iron Man 3'

When Scarlett Johansson put on the spandex to play Marvel heroine Black Widow in "Iron Man 2," it was immediately clear that the character would become a regular in the Marvel movie universe. She's reprising the role in next week's highly-anticipated "The Avengers."

But Johansson won't be back in "Iron Man 3." In an interview alongside a giggly Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), she told Screenrant she won't be seen in the threequel, but she'd be keen on a "Bourne"-style solo film featuring the character.

Meanwhile, in spite of Johansson's absence, "Iron Man 3" won't be short on lovely ladies; Gwyneth Paltrow is set to return as Pepper Potts, and Jessica Chastain ("The Help," "Tree of Life") was recently added to the cast which already includes Robert Downey Jr., Ben Kingsley, Guy Pearce and Don Cheadle.

"The Avengers" opens May 4 in the U.S., and is already playing in much of the world.

It's sad to see so much talent wasted on such crappy movies, and to make it worse the actors will be impersonated by even crappier and screamingly obvious CGI in all scenes which are not close-ups.

But hey, the 13-year-olds will love it. They always do.

Jems Their talent would only be wasted if these were the ONLY movies they made. Ask any actor and they'll tell you that the popcorn flicks pay the bills and allow them to utilize their talents in more challenging but less popular roles.

Dont judge the movie till you have seen it. IMO it is the best superheroes movie to come by in a long time. So good that I intend to catch the movie again in 2D after watching it in 3D. Go watch it

    "...beloved human protagonist Sam Witwicky?"
Please tell me that was written in jest. Nobody likes Shia Lebeouf.

I think if Transformers has any chance of getting better, LaBeouf can't be a part of it. A new direction is required and his character would limit any kind of innovation along those lines. I don't dislike him, though.

I would be interested in a Transformers movie without Michael Bay's involvement.

I think if Black Widow is gonna be in any of the 3 confirmed Marvel Studios films, it'll be Captain America. She's a SHIELD agent, and Kevin Feige has said that since Captain America has nowhere else to go, he'll be sticking with SHIELD for the time being.
