'Avatar's Zoe Saldana circling 'Guardians of the Galaxy'
Zoe Saldana may be best-known for playing a blue-skinned creature in James Cameron's "Avatar," but she may soon be seen with green skin in Marvel's newest big screen supergroup, "Guardians of the Galaxy."
Saldana is in talks for the lead female role of Gamora, a green-skinned humanoid assassin who is the last of her species, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The James Gunn-directed "Guardians" will be the centerpiece of Marvel's Phase Two, and will reportedly tie into "The Avengers 2."
The film has already cast Chris Pratt ("Zero Dark Thirty") as playing the group's leader Star-Lord and MMA champ Dave Bautista as the hulking Drax the Destroyer. Other key members of the space-trekking superhero team include a talking tree named Groot and the feisty Rocket Raccoon, who will both likely be rendered using motion-capture technology.
The film is scheduled to begin production in June.
Saldana will next be seen reprising her role as Uhura in J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek Into Darkness," before appearing in Robert Rodriguez's "Machete Kills." She'll also star opposite Christian Bale, Forest Whitaker and Casey Affleck in the crime drama "Out of the Furnace." There are also those planned "Avatar" sequels in the works as well.
"Guardians of the Galaxy" is set to hit theaters August 1, 2014, with "The Avengers 2" following in 2015.
