NBC sets an early Emmy Awards date for 2010
NBC has announced that the 62nd Emmy Awards will be heald on Sunday, Aug. 29 next year, several weeks earlier than the telecast's usual timing.
The early telecast is due to NBC's broadcasting commitments to Sunday Night Football. A similarly early telecast aired in 2006, the last time NBC aired the Emmys.
In addition, it prevents the sort of scheduling chaos that occurred this year when CBS set the Emmys, moved them to avoid football conflicts and then had to move them back when the later date clashed with MTV's VMAs.
"NBC is excited to host television's biggest night with the Primetime Emmy Awards," says NBC EVP for Alternative Programming Paul Telegdy. "Scheduling and announcing the telecast for August 29 this early in the awards cycle will give the Television Academy and NBC a head start on creative discussions."
Emmy nominations will be announced on Thursday, July 8 at 5:40 p.m. PT.
