Jennifer Lawrence will shoot 'X-Men: First Class' sequel after 'Catching Fire'
It's not easy juggling two high-profile film franchises. Just ask Jennifer Lawrence, who plays a young Mystique in" X-Men: First Class" and stars as Katniss Everdeen in "The Hunger Games."
With both films scoring at the box office, sequels were a given. 20th Century Fox initially wanted to start shooting on the "First Class" follow-up this fall, which was when Lionsgate was aiming to shoot "Catching Fire, " the next installment in the "Hunger Games" series. With both wanting to keep Lawrence in their respective films, the studios compromised. "Catching Fire" will shoot this fall, and Lawrence with then report to the "X-Men" set first thing in 2013.
"X-Men," which also starred Michael Fassbender, James MacAvoy and Rose Byrne, will continue its 1960s-set storyline in the sequel. Matthew Vaughn ("Kick-Ass") is returning as director.
The outlook is less-certain on "Catching Fire." Although Lawrence is definitely returning, "Hunger Games" director Gary Ross and Lionsgate are having trouble reaching a deal for him to return. However, even without Ross, the sequel will commence production this fall.
