Kiefer Sutherland has been formally charged with misdemeanor assault stemming from the alleged headbutting of Proenza Schouler designer Jack McCollough on Tuesday (May 5) night.

Sutherland was ordered to appear at a Manhattan Criminal Court on June 22.

While it's up to the courts to decide what comes next, what will this mean for Sutherland, already under probation from a 2007 DUI charge, and for the eighth season of "24"?

Sutherland previously served 48 days in jail for diving under the influence and violating probation from a previous DUI, but that jailtime came during a "24" hiatus caused by the writers' strike.

As it stands now, "24" is supposed to begin production at the end of the month, but the potential complications are clear.
