Weinsteins will fight 'Blue Valentine's' NC-17 rating
The Weinstein's will fight the NC-17 rating assigned to 'Blue Valentine' starring Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams. The rating, which was created a few years ago for non-pornographic "adult" films, tends to cripple a movie as many theaters will not play them and many newspapers will not allow advertising for them.
In a public statement, the Weinsteins protested the rating as "surprising" and declared they would be "taking every possible step to contest the MPAA’s decision." The brothers stayed respectful to the powerful body, however, saying "We respect the work of the MPAA and we hope, after having a chance to sit down with them, they will see that our appeal is reasonable, and the film, which is an honest and personal portrait of a relationship, would be significantly harmed by such a rating.”
