Sam Smith is wed in new "Lay Me Down" video
Sam Smith's new video "Lay Me Down" features an elegiac opening and a triumphant closing. The singer, nominated for Album of the Year at this Sunday's Grammys, took to Facebook to explain his connection to the video.
"This song holds a very dear place in my heat," he said. "With this video myself and Ryan Hope the director have decided to make a statement and showcase something we passionately believe in. This video shows my dreams that one day gay men and women and transgendered men and women all over the world, like all our straight families and friends, will be able to get married under any roof, in any city, in any town, in any village, in any country. I hope you enjoy it. I love you all.”
In the clip, a dramatic funeral scene gives way to a magnificent wedding moment. "Lay Me Down" was originally the first single released from Smith's "In the Lonely Hour" album, but this video marks a re-release for the track.
