Will 'The Expendables 2' really be PG-13?
In addition to the veteran action stars of the first film, including Sylvester Stallone and Jet Li, "Expendables 2" will feature more Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger, and new additions Jean-Claude Van Damme and Chuck Norris. One thing it won't feature, though, is cursing.
The sequel will likely be rated PG-13, allowing a larger audience to thrill to the sights and sounds of geriatric action stars blowing things up and wrestling in the mud and what-not. Reportedly, newcomer Norris preferred to co-star in a kinder, gentler action film. While he seems OK with the sequel's presumed ultra-violence, Norris took umbrage to the first film's bad language, and revealed that that aspect of the film would be toned down in order to win a PG-13 rating.
Responding to the rumors, star-producer Stallone told Aint It Cool, "The PG13 rumor is true, but before your readers pass judgment, trust me when I say this film is LARGE in every way and delivers on every level. This movie touches on many emotions which we want to share with the broadest audience possible, BUT, fear not, this Barbeque of Grand scale Ass Bashing will not leave anyone hungry."
The first "Expendables" was rated R, due to graphic violence, grand scale ass bashing and swearing. It grossed $274 million worldwide. Will a PG-13 sequel gross as much, or perhaps, more?
