Betty White brings huge ratings to 'Saturday Night Live'
It looks like Facebook knew best in this case.
Betty White's heavily hyped and rapturously reviewed stint as "Saturday Night Live" brought the venerable late-night comedy some of its best ratings in years.
[Yes, Jay-Z and the return of several beloved female former cast members may have contributed.]
The May 8 "Saturday Night Live" drew 12.1 million viewers and a 4.6 rating in the 18-49 demo. It was the biggest audience for "SNL" since a pair of 2008 episodes featuring guest appearances by John McCain and Sarah Palin.
If you eliminate political stunts, this was the highest rated "SNL" in the demo since a 2004 episode hosted by Jennifer Aniston and it was the biggest audience in total viewers since a Steve Martin-hosted episode in 1994.
The Betty White episode also set a series record for full episode streams at NBC.com, with 728,000 full episode streams on Sunday, May 9 alone.
