No joke, "Captain America" shooting in England
America's greatest comic book hero (sorry Superman, you're the world's greatest), is abandoning his country for England. Well, maybe that's a bit dramatic, but Marvel Studios has made the tough decision to shoot "Captain America: The First Avenger" in London.
A majority of the film takes place during World War II in Europe and in a statement from the studio, Co-President of Marvel Studios, Louis D’Esposito, said, "I actually had location scouts here [Los Angeles] to see what could be done. But it would have required so much visual-effects work and set construction, it didn’t make sense. These are tough financial times right now that could pressure us to look at other locations. But we have every intention of shooting the majority of films here.”
Starring Chris Evans as the patriotic super soldier, Joe Johnston's "Captain America: The First Avenger" will open nationwide on July 22, 2011.
