Anna Kournikova joins NBC's 'Biggest Loser'

When a tennis player notorious for achieving a tremendous level of fame without winning even one singles title for her entire career joins a show called "The Biggest Loser," there are plenty of obvious jokes to make.

We obviously won't resort to that.

Kournikova, one of her generation's great doubles champions (that's a nicer thing to bring up than her lack of singles titles), will take over as the newest "Biggest Loser" trainer when the weight-loss series returns to NBC in September 2011 for its 12th installment. She's no stranger to "Biggest Loser," having made several guest appearances, most recently in last week's finale.

"I’m so excited to be a part of 'The Biggest Loser' team; I’ve always been a fan of the show," states Kournikova. "As a former professional tennis player and certified trainer, this is a wonderful opportunity for me to share my enthusiasm for staying fit across America’s homes. I’m honored to join a program that embraces the values of a healthy lifestyle and is committed to fighting obesity. I look forward to the upcoming season and seeing the results we can achieve together!"

"The Biggest Loser" promises a number of additional changes for Season 12. We'll fill you in on those, if they happen to be notable.
