Pixar debuts its 'Brave' new world

A little over a year from now, Pixar will debut its next animated film, "Brave."  As always, the studio is pretty secretive about its upcoming project, but it recently released a brand new CG rendering from the adventure.

The Scottish-set tale is Pixar's first fairy tale and the first with a female hero at the center of the story.  It's also the first co-directed by a woman (about time!).  Once titled "The Brave and the Bow," the subject in the photo is our heroine, Merida, a tom boy of a princess who one day defies a sacred custom of the land and inadvertently brings turmoil to the kingdom. In an attempt to set things right, Merida seeks out an eccentric old Wise Woman (Julie Walters) and is granted an ill-fated wish. Kevin McKidd, CraigFerguson and Robbie Coltrane also voice characters in the tale.

"Brave" is scheduled to open nationwide on June 22, 2012.
