Will Michael Fassbender be the next 'Magneto'?

Michael Fassbender's latest Hollywood studio movie, "Jonah Hex," is bombing at the box office this weekend, but luckily he has a potential goldmine in the works for his next role.

Rumored for weeks, the supporting actor in such films as "Inglourious Basterds," "300" and the indie darling "Fish Tank" is now negotiating to play a younger Magneto in Matthew Vaughn's "X-Men: First Class."  James McAvoy is already on board to play Prof. Charles Xavier.  Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart played both roles, respectively, in the first three "X-Men" films.

What's making this more interesting, is that Sony Pictures wants Fassbender to play the villain in its new "Spider-Man" reboot.  Like Lebron James, Fassbender has a big choice to make that could seriously affect the rest of his career.  And with Fox wanting to begin production on "First Class" in August, he'll have to make it soon.  In either case, the new project will allow him to quickly forget about "Hex."
