Chris Nolan reveals frustration over 'Dark Knight' sequel lead to producing 'Superman'
Christopher Nolan is hard at work editing his upcoming summer release "Inception," but took a break during the week to discuss his involvement as just a producer on Warner Bros.' latest "Superman" reboot. Some of his revelations include:
- There is no current title. "Man of Steel" is "fan fiction."
- He respects what Bryan Singer did with "Superman Returns," but this version will not reflect the original Richard Donner films. Nolan says, "A lot of people have approached Superman in a lot of different ways. I only know the way that has worked for us that’s what I know how to do."
- It was encountering writer's block over an expected third Batman movie that lead to collaborator David. S. Goyer to discuss an idea for Superman that got Nolan interested.
- This new Superman movie will not be in the same world as his "Dark Knight." Nolan says, “Each serves to the internal logic of the story. They have nothing to do with each other.”
- There is no villain yetfor the "Superman" film which is still in the very early stages of development.
You can read more about Nolan's thoughts about "Superman" and the Batman franchise here, but one interesting tidbit: he can absolutely confirm Mr. Freeze won't be the Batman's adversary in any "Dark Knight" follow up.
Whew.
