'Muppets Most Wanted'
Release Date: March 21
Why it's a sequel we want: 2011’s “The Muppets,” breathed new life into everyone’s favorite frog, bear, and whatever. Now, James Bobin is returning to helm the sequel, which he’s written alongside Nicholas Stoller (who wrote “The Muppets” with Jason Segel). Bobin and Stoller clearly have a very good idea of what it takes to make the Muppets relevant in the 21st Century without losing any of their charm or wit. The characters they put on the screen last time not only brought back fuzzy memories of childhood, but helped garner a new generation of fans. This sequel, with its European setting and jewel-heist story, has definite shades of “The Great Muppet Caper,” which may have been the best of the first go-round of Muppet films. With Bret McKenzie (who won an Oscar for his work on “The Muppets”) also returning to write songs for the sequel and a huge list of stars putting in cameo appearances, it looks as though the fun—and absurdity--may hit new heights. They don’t even need to work out a way to fit “Happiness Hotel” into “Most Wanted," although we certainly wouldn’t complain if they did.
