Why: Rannells is the type of triple-threat talent that thrives in Studio 8H. His ability to act, sing, and dance offers the writers a variety of sketches in which to deploy those skills. Throw in his role on NBC’s “The New Normal”, and you have a case of smart network cross-promotion and the chance for the show to have a host extremely comfortable in front of a live audience. And if NBC is anxious to give “1600 Penn” a boost, they could always bring on Josh Gad for a mini-“The Book Of Mormon” reunion during the monologue.
