Lafayette and Jesus were a cute couple
It's easy to make your obligatory gay character big and outrageous, but there was more to Lafayette than that. He was a genuinely complicated character, morally ambiguous and far richer in terms of how he was imagined than he appeared to be at first glimpse. Once Jesus was introduced, it was great watching Lafayette struggle to figure out what role this person played in his life, and their relationship promised to be one of the show's most interesting. Quickly, though, Jesus was turned into a plot device instead of a character, and it just petered out, with Lafeyette eventually turning into more of a victim than anything else.
