What's the consensus on the new shows?
For over a month, critics have been gradually working through 20+ shows premiering on the five networks this fall (to say nothing of the dozen-plus shows premiering at midseason). And even though people like to talk about Twitter creating a critical hive mind, the reality is that nobody watches the same pilots at the same time or tweets about them at the same time and it's virtually impossible to know what your friends and colleagues think about what they've seen. But once we get to Beverly Hills, everybody's first question becomes "So what'd you actually LIKE?" And that leads to, "You thought that was the worst? Wow, I hated THAT one more." Etc. And if you aren't having those conversations, you can usually tell from the panels for shows. Which showrunners are facing indignant questions about racism, sexism or plotholes? Which actors are being forced to defend their American accents? Etc. By the end of the two weeks of press tour, you may not know which shows will hit and which will miss, but you know how the reviews will look.
