$200 million plus doesn't mean its good
Alice in Wonderland
Release date: March 5, 2010
U.S. box office: $334.1 million
Why it's bad: The idea of the visually creative Tim Burton tackling the classic Lewis Carroll tome and having Burton's longtime collaborator Johnny Depp play the Mad Hatter must have looked amazing on paper. Throw in Anne Hathaway as the White Queen and Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen and the possibilities were endless. That's of course, if you had a script that put the whole world in any sort of context for our hero (Mia Wasikowska). Moreover, the film's 3D conversion - at the height of the post "Avatar" 3D frenzy - was almost as bad as the infamous digital work done for "Clash of the Titans." It might have been pretty and sold lots of overpriced tickets, but you certainly never heard moviegoers clamoring for a sequel.
