Which of these belated follow-ups were worth the wait?
'Toy Story 3' (2010)
Sequel to: 1999's "Toy Story 2"
Years between films: 11
Why it works: "Toy Story 2" is one of those rare sequels that is, quite probably, better than the original film. The notion of going back to that well once more for "Toy Story 3" may have initially seemed like a mistake, but Pixar did a completely brilliant job with the movie. This may have been a movie about toys, but it was also a movie about moving on, growing up, and changing, and it doesn't just happen with the toys in the film, it happened with the humans as well. It is bittersweet and truly emotional (no joke, we were worried there for a while when our heroes were on the conveyor belt) Plus, the notion that Andy aged the same number of years as it took to go from "Toy Story" to "Toy Story 3" worked as an absolutely incredible gut punch to those who remembered seeing, as teens, the first one in theaters. How long was the separation between films? How could this kid be going to college?! When did I get these gray hairs!?!
