10 New Shows We're Worried About After Upfronts 2012

Why we're worried: NBC believes they've found a breakout star in "Book of Mormon" Tony nominee Josh Gad, who co-created this White House-set dysfunctional family comedy and stars as the President's disaster-prone son. Anyone who's seen Gad's utterly obnoxious turn in "Love and Other Drugs" has legitimate cause for concern about that, and those fears won't be assuaged by the show's comedically-challenged promo. And while it's initially amusing to see "Independence Day" star Bill Pullman back in Presidential mode, is he actually a good fit for weekly TV comedy?
Why it could still end up OK: If the series can somehow find a middle ground between its obvious "Modern Family" influences (director Jason Winer helmed both pilots) and smart government-set comedies like "Parks and Recreation" and "Veep," it may turn out to be a lot better -- and smarter -- than it looks.

May 23, 2012 at 5:02PM EST Reply to CommentSafran and Savage know how to launch a show but not how to sustain it. Having said that, I predict Carrie Dairies will be in the "Failure to Launch" category. It might get LA Complex-type numbers and most likely won't last the season.
