We aren't dreading 'The Vampire Diaries,' 'Flash Forward' and 'Melrose Place,' but...
Wednesday nights at 8 p.m. on ABC
From What We've Seen: It should take nothing away from Kelsey Grammer's status as perhaps the greatest sitcom leading man of his generation to say that perhaps his schtick has grown tired. Every single line-reading in the "Hank" cut-down could have been vintage Frasier Crane, a strategy that failed to win viewers to FOX's "Back to You." It's not that Grammer's comic timing has dulled or that his erudite sarcasm has become inherently unfunny, just that familiarity has dulled its edge. Kelsey Grammer isn't prone to listening to us, but maybe it's time for him to find a good drama pilot? Play a corrupt law film partner or a stern chief-of-surgery or a conflicted police chief? Flex some different muscles before trotting out to yet another auto-pilot sitcom? The funniest thing in the clips was David Koechner, but maybe that means it's time to give David Koechner his own network pilot, rather than making him play country mouse to Grammer's city mouse?
