Robert Redford and James McAvoy in "The Conspirator"
Who: Evan Rachel Wood, James McAvoy, Justin Long, Robin Wright and director Robert Redford.
What: The true story of Mary Surratt, the only woman charged in the conspiracy plot to assassinate President Abraham Lincoln. With public pressure mounting, her reluctant lawyer has the difficult task of trying to prove her innocence.
Why: Redford hasn't directed a good picture since "Quiz Show" in 1994, but he's got to have a few more good films in him, right? This is also his first independently produced flick -- ironic for the founder of the Sundance Institute - but Wood, McAvoy and Wright don't spend their free time in weak scripted indies. The question is whether Redford has avoided making this a dry, court room drama. If he's smart it could work...
