Bryce Dallas Howard and Matt Damon in "Hereafter"
"Hereafter"
Who: Matt Damon, Bryce Dallas Howard, Jay Mohr and directed by Clint Eastwood.
What: Your official synopsis, "A supernatural thriller centered on three people -- a blue-collar American, a French journalist and a London school boy -- who are touched by death in different ways." Oh, and it's written by two-time Oscar nominee Peter Morgan.
Why: Well, first off, there is currently only one public screening and no press screening which is beyond odd for such a high profile picture (why bring it if you won't show it?). Second, in his long and illustrious career, Eastwood has never directed anything close to a supernatural thriller ('Nuff said). Third, Eastwood cast Jay Mohr -- yes, that Jay Mohr -- in a major role. He certainly had some moments in "Picture Perfect," but it's just another part of the puzzle that makes this one an understandable curiosity.
Update: A press screening has now been added for the film on Sept. 11. There should be a long line of journos to get in at the Scotiabank to see Clint's latest.
[Opening nationwide Oct. 22]
- Gregory Ellwood
