Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart in "Rabbit Hole"
Who: Directed by John Cameron Mitchell, starring Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart.
What: A woman, having suffered a trauma involving the death of her son, tries to eliminate all memory of what happened by getting rid of all her worldly possessions, leading to a struggle for her to maintain her identity and her marriage even as she abandons the woman she used to be.
Why: Have you seen "Hedwig And The Angry Inch"? That film marked Mitchell as a major new voice in film, and since then, he's only made one other narrative feature, "Shortbus." While that wasn't the same kind of home run that "Hedwig" was, it was still bold and personal, and this time out, Mitchell's working with a great cast and a movie star/producer who has something to prove. The combination could turn out to be one of the most exciting films for grown-ups this year.
