10 must see Toronto Film Festival flicks: 'Black Swan,' 'Passion Play,' 'Rabbit Hole'
Plus: 'Never Let Me Go,' 'Dirty Girl,' 'Everything Must Go,' 'The Conspirator' and more
Josh Hartnett in "Bunraku"
"Bunraku"
Who: Directed by Guy Moshe, starring Josh Hartnett, Demi Moore, Ron Perlman, Gackt, Woody Harrelson, Kevin McKidd, and Jordi Molla.
What: The story of a a young man who has spent his life searching for revenge only to find himself up against a bigger challenge than he originally bargained for
Why: This is one of those action films that aims to be something outside the norm, so the stakes are high. If it fails, it could be awful, but if it succeeds, this "Yojimbo" riff set in a world that appears to be made of paper filled with crazy colorful criminals and lowlifes could be the trippiest kick of the festival. There's buzz building already, and anyone planning to attend the Midnight Madness screening should be ready for anything.
[Hoping to be picked up]

Lamps8 I was really intrigued and prepared to see this, but then I saw that it was filmed in 08/early 09 and has had a bunch of rough test screenings. No longer sure if I wanna waste 1 out of 10 tickets on this.

August 26, 2010 at 11:00AM EST Reply to CommentI have my doubts about Bunraku, Dick Tracy and Sin City are the only two movies I can think of that have really pulled it off.
