10 music artists ready for a comeback
From Aretha Franklin to Shania Twain, The Cars to Justin Timberlake
Amy Winehouse
Our favorite trainwreck has been noticeably quiet lately and we hope that means sanity has been restored and it’s time for new music. After 2006’s “Back to Black” swept the Grammys in February 2007, Winehouse’s considerable musical talent was totally usurped by tales of her substance abuse and mental issues, with an occasional story about her breast implants. But she’s been gestating new tunes and the word surfaced that a new album, produced by Saleem Remi, is ready to go. In fact, a tentative January release date came and went. Then rumors started that she was back in St. Lucia (where she spends much of her time) in January recording with Cee Lo Green. A spokesperson for Winehouse would only confirm to Popeater that Winehouse is “writing and recording.”
Likelihood of a full comeback: The initial excitement will be there for sure, but we have no idea if she’ll be like Duffy, whose second album came and went without a sound or if she’ll be like Adele and explode even more with a new set. Was “Back to Black” simply one of those once-in-a-lifetime albums or is Winehouse a career artist? And, more importantly, can she stay out of her own way?
