As with "Bunheads," it's a case of a creator (Aaron Sorkin) whose early TV work ("Sports Night" and especially "The West Wing") I loved, whose most recent series (the self-important, tone-deaf "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip") was a mess, and who is returning with a series — starring Jeff Daniels as a popular cable news anchor who starts stirring up trouble when he decides he's sick of making the most middle-of-the-road, inoffensive newscast in the business — that allows him to do what he does best. Sorkin couldn't convincingly create a fake sketch comedy show, but I believe he can make a fake news show, and add to that his trademark (and now Oscar-winning) banter and another terrific cast (that also includes Emily Mortimer and Sam Waterston).
