Peter Jackson holds the record for most Best Movie nominations
A record was broken with the 2014 MTV Movie Award nominations that comes as a slight surprise. Christopher Nolan, Peter Jackson and Gore Verbinski were sharing the record for most Best Movie nominations (four each) until "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" managed a nod where its predecessor in the series didn't. That plus the three "Lord of the Rings" films and "King Kong" give Jackson the record all to himself with five nominations. Let's see if 2015's "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" puts some space between him and the other two. It's interesting, though not at all surprising, to note that all three of these filmmakers needed franchises to reach these numbers.
