May 1, 2013 at 2:13PM EST Reply to CommentYou should've mentioned two extremely popular songs in 2012 that spend many weeks at number 2 without hitting #1 (which really upset me both times)... With Maroon 5 and Wiz Khalifa's "Payphone" spending six non-consecutive weeks at #2, I really wished it would get to #1 (perhaps sales were too weak compared to at first Gotye's "Somebody that I Used to Know" and then Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe" (radio airplay was strong). However, Maroon 5 made a comeback, at the expense of the other #2 hit, with "One More Night" spending nine consecutive weeks at #1 and shutting out PSY's viral hit "Gangnam Style" which spent seven non-consecutive weeks at the runner-up spot, and was a measly 600 chart points (less than 0.1%) away from the top spot in its third week at number one. Such a shame all these songs (including the ones you mentioned) didn't hit the #1 spot, I would have liked to see that...
