10 greatest Superhero Movies of All Time

Batman? X-Men? Superman? Spider-Man? Which heroes made the list?

10. Batman Returns

10. Batman Returns

Released: 1992

What makes it great: One of the most common complaints about the Christopher Nolan Batman films is that there's not a lot of Batman in them. Of the two modern film franchises involving the character, it was Burton's second film that featured the most incisive textual look at the character. It could be argued that the entire film is an internal struggle for control of Batman's soul. Every character is a reflection of some piece of his fractured psyche. Catwoman's the part that loves to wear rubber and beat the crap out of people. The Penguin is the part that feels like a freak because he lost his parents. Even Max Shrek is the personification of the callous businessman Bruce Wayne frequently pretends to be. When these characters clash in the empty streets of a completely unreal city, it is nothing less that Batman fighting to see which part of himself is strongest, and at the end of the film, Burton's hero finally feels psychologically complete, ready for a series of films that, sadly, we never saw.

I'd have put Avengers first, Hellboy II second, TDK third, and Captain America SOMEWHERE. It's hardly a bad list though. Shame that Hellboy II isn't here but maybe you're not considering him a superhero?

Williamwayne Jesus Christ @breno your list is retarded....incredible hulk???wolverine??? Those are some stupid choices for top ten and there is no way The Amazing Spiderman should be first, even the Sam Raimi movies were better.

I will never understand the love for Sam Raimi's Spiderman trilogy, but I've accepted that many people loved the first two. Also, I'm stunned at the pass that Batman Returns gets for being so terrible. How can you possibly have that and the Rocketeer on the list & not have all three Nolan Batman films?

A little surprised at some movies, not making the list. But I just couldn't agree with you more on the top-listed favourite of mine.

Just figure Batman Begins deserves a spot in any top ten list with a title where the words "greatest" and "superhero movies" are used.

TDK had a "groundbreaking score"? More like an eardrum-splitting score.

While not usually seen as a straight up super-hero flick, Unbreakable has always been near the top of my personal "super-hero top 10". Cant fault any of the movies on this list though...

Alyssahui Now THIS is a list I can agree with! Not with ones where people are choosing heroes because they have better love stories or because they haven't seen all the movies on this list.
