HitFix tallies up the numeric significance of this year's crop of nominees
12: Number of nominations separating Meryl Streep from her last Oscar win
Given that Streep is nominated for an Oscar seemingly every single year (though the truth is closer to half that), it's easy to forget that she hasn't actually won since 1983, when she took home the gold for her stunning, technically brilliant performance in Alan J. Pakula's "Sophie's Choice". That's right - arguably our greatest living actress hasn't won an Academy Award in nearly 30 years, despite the fact she's been nominated a dozen times since then. In hindsight, however, her losing streak could be due to the fact that the majority of the films she's been nominated for over the past three decades, including such fluffy fare as "Julie & Julia", "The Devil Wears Prada" and "Music of the Heart", haven't received the kind of across-the-board raves that may have made the difference in securing her a win. Nevertheless, while the film Streep is nominated for this year, the Margaret Thatcher biopic "The Iron Lady", certainly has its share of detractors, there's a strong sense of inevitability working in her favor this time around.
