Though "The Artist" is still expected by a good percentage of prognosticators to take home the Best Picture prize come February 26th, Martin Scorsese's "Hugo" really came out of the gate today, besting the former film's nomination count by one. Of course, many of those nods came in categories in which "The Artist" was never a contender, including stuff like, you know, Sound Editing. So will "Hugo" manage to surpass the Michael Hazanavicius film as the frontrunner for the big prize in the lead-up to the awards ceremony? With zero nods in the acting categories, it seems a good bet that it won't.
