Bjork, Snoop Dogg, The Beach Boys and others deserve some explanations
The Beach Boys
Number of times nominated: 7
Music lesson: This is a hard one to believe, and makes one want to question the validity of the entire Grammys. The Beach Boys received a lifetime achievement award in 2001, but it's pretty mind-blowing that none of those countless early singles -- nor their boundry-pushing 1966 album "Pet Sounds" -- were ever honored. Wilson's solo work has earned him a 2005 Grammy for best instrumental song, despite being best known for his vocal arrangements and harmonies. Although the remaining Beach Boys are reuniting for an upcoming nostalgia tour, it's unlikely they'll ever record anything worthy of an award now.
