Seemingly-interchangeable Nicholas Sparks adaptations
If you recently watched the trailer for "The Lucky One" starring Zac Efron and could've sworn that movie had already come out, you wouldn't be far wrong. It has, kind of, only under different titles and with different actors. "The Last Song". "Dear John". "The Notebook". Every single one of them adapted from a book written by some guy named Nicholas Sparks, who has made millions by penning a seemingly-endless string of middle-of-the-road romantic novels with plotlines that hew more or less to the same basic, emotionally manipulative formula. Let's hope people tire of these movies soon rather than later, as no less than four new Sparks adaptations are already waiting in the development pipeline. God help us all.
