Is 'Better Call Saul' just the beginning?
The pitch: Not to be confused with "Fringe," "Fring" would center on a young, hot-headed Gustavo Fring as he navigates his way through the Chilean criminal underworld during the final days of Pinochet's dictatorship. His hardcore experiences eventually dull him into the seemingly emotionless Machiavellian kingpin seen on "Bad."
Ideal channel: HBO, so they can swear.
We'd watch because: Vince Gilligan and his writers intentionally left Fring's origins vague, only hinting at a notorious past in Chile before his relocation to Mexico. Giancarlo Esposito brought a subtle intensity to Fring which is currently being put to use on "Revolution," but is more suited for the world of "Breaking Bad." Spike Lee -- who cast Esposito in several notable early roles -- can direct the pilot.
