Will Salma Hayek's 'Prophet' gamble pay off?
When we attended a special presentation about Salma Hayek's passion-driven animated adaptation of "Kahlil Gibran's The Prophet," we thought it was very promising. Amazing animation talent from around the world all focused on a collection of poems about love and spirituality? Whatever else it is, "The Prophet" is an experiment, and I hope it's a smashing success if for no other reason than any movie that expands the idea of what an animated film can be is a good thing. Animation remains one of the greatest untapped resources in film, shackled to stories for children for no reason other than commercial blindness. There is no limit to what we can do in animation, and I'm excited to see something aimed so squarely at grown-ups. Here's hoping the film works as a whole.
