Will the Brian Wilson biopic be as crazy as its subject?
Oh, god, please. One of the reasons "I'm Not There" is so good is because the style in which the story is told is a perfect illustration of the nature of Bob Dylan. He is multitudes, a cultural shape-shifter, and casting a wide assortment of people to play him seems to get to the heart of who he is. Likewise, casting Paul Dano and John Cusack as young and old Brian Wilson gives us a chance to see just how different he was on the other side of the heartbreak and the madness and the isolation. "Love and Mercy" is one of this year's must-sees for me precisely because they're trying something so impressionistic with a form as rigid and dull as the biopic. Bring it on.
