'Star Trek,' 'The World's End,' 'Thor 2' ... and 'Metallica: Through the Never?'
'Metallica: Through the Never'
The battle scene: Dane DeHaan's nameless roadie character runs smack into the middle of a street riot that seems to have been instigated by a mysterious figure on horseback and some seriously crazy ass-kicking ensues.
Why it was awesome: Nimrod Antal didn't even try to make the wrap-around story coherent in the "Metallica" IMAX film, and that's entirely okay with us. It feels like we get plunged into a metal album cover from the '80s come to awesome IMAX life, and Antal's work on movies like "Predators" pays off here because he does a tremendous job of making this all feel ominous and apocalyptic and bigger-than-life, even though none of it has any stakes at all. It's pure music video mayhem, and seen on the biggest commercial screens available with that amazing IMAX sound system pounding away is as close to a real street riot as I ever want to get.
