'The World's End'
The battle scene: The bathroom brawl
Why it was awesome: For viewers unaware of the film's sudden shift from drunken comedy to sci-fi action (and there were such viewers, believe it or not), the initial fight scene in a pub W.C. must have come as quite a shock. By the time the scene arrives, we've already grown to love the bickering, drunken man-boys -- led by pals Simon Pegg and Nick Frost -- at the film's center, and watching them go from battling their own demons to battling robot teens somehow all makes perfect sense in the hands of director Edgar Wright. Every punch, kick and blue blood-splattering decapitation is felt, and all without losing the film's zippy sense of WTF fun. The scene is pivotal to selling the film's narrative shift, and Wright and his cast nail it.
